Seminole County Hosts Region Work-Based Learning Meeting

On Thursday, September 10, Seminole County had the pleasure of hosting the Region Work-Based Learning (WBL) Quarterly Meeting, with representatives from 35 counties in attendance.

Following introductions, WBL coordinators enjoyed a tour of our facilities before returning to the Multipurpose Room for lunch and the afternoon business meeting.

Lunch was generously sponsored by the Donalsonville Downtown Development Authority (DDA) and the Seminole County Chamber of Commerce and catered by Southern Grind. Hannah Roberts, DDA President, and Kadie Matthews, Chamber President, welcomed our guests with greetings from Donalsonville. They also provided brochures featuring our community, along with a list of local shopping and dining recommendations to help our visitors experience all that Donalsonville has to offer.

SCHS WBL Coordinator Kathryn Touchton extends a heartfelt thank-you to the DDA and the Chamber for their generosity and for the time and effort they invested in welcoming our out-of-town guests.

The Work-Based Learning program is an important part of our school system, providing students with valuable opportunities to explore careers, develop workplace skills, and prepare for the workforce of tomorrow.

Thank you to our community partners for helping us showcase Seminole County and support our students!

Work-Based Learning Spotlight

Maggie Hornsby is completing her Work-Based Learning hours at The Whittaker Agency, where she is gaining valuable experience while strengthening the employability skills that are an important component of all CTAE courses. Her position provides her with the opportunity to apply these skills in a real-world setting and prepare for success in today’s workforce.

As an employee at The Whittaker Agency, Maggie gains hands-on experience in a professional office environment while learning how a business operates. Her responsibilities include answering phones, organizing paperwork, assisting customers, and completing a variety of office tasks. Through this experience, Maggie has strengthened her communication, organization, and time-management skills while gaining a better understanding of the insurance industry and the expectations of a professional workplace.

The Whittaker Agency became a WBL partner last spring, and we are excited to continue building this partnership for years to come. We are incredibly grateful for their willingness to invest in our students and help prepare them for successful futures!

CTAE Advisory Council Fall Meeting

The SCHS CTAE Advisory Council met on Tuesday, September 8th, for its fall meeting. After enjoying breakfast, sponsored by the FFA, CTAE Director Kathryn Touchton shared an informative presentation highlighting the purpose and importance of the advisory council. She also discussed Georgia CTAE pathways, Governor Kemp’s Top State for Talent initiative, and the 11 CTAE pathways currently offered at SCHS.

Following the presentation, council members had the opportunity to tour our new, state-of-the-art CTAE classrooms and labs and see firsthand the exciting learning opportunities available to our students.

A huge “thank you” goes out to the individuals and business and industry partners who were able to attend. Your time, talents, expertise, and commitment to our students are greatly appreciated!

The primary functions of a CTAE Advisory Council are to:
• Encourage CTAE pathway alignment with the local labor market needs of business and industry.
• Strengthen Work-Based Learning (WBL) programs and expand student workforce opportunities.
• Cultivate partnerships among industry, education, and economic development stakeholders.
• Support Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) events, clubs, and initiatives.
• Promote public awareness and understanding of CTAE programs.

If you are interested in becoming a member of this important group, please contact Mrs. Touchton. Advisory Council members provide valuable support, guidance, and industry expertise to help strengthen CTAE programs and ensure our graduates are prepared to pursue postsecondary education, training, and successful careers. Join CTAE in helping shape the future!
