At the November meeting of the Seminole County Board of Education, two long-serving members of the transportation department were recognized for their exceptional dedication and service — Larry Fennell, veteran bus driver, and Rob Blackburn, transportation director.
Rob Blackburn was named the Transportation Director of the Year for Southwest Georgia RESA. Blackburn has served the Seminole County School System since 1977, working as a mechanic, bus driver, and now as transportation director. His career in student transportation began early, inspired by his father, Mr. Willie Blackburn, who contracted bus work with the district for many years. Rob’s lifelong commitment to keeping Seminole County’s students safe on the road stands as a testament to his leadership and devotion to the school community.
Larry Fennell, a dedicated driver for 44 years, was recognized as the Bus Driver of the Year for Southwest Georgia RESA. His certificate of recognition was signed by State School Superintendent Richard Woods and State Transportation Director Todd Cason. Over his remarkable career, Fennell has transported approximately 982,000 students, driven 88 miles daily, accumulated more than 697,000 miles, and made around 100 field trips or athletic trips each year—totaling about 4,400 trips throughout his career. Even more impressively, he has maintained an accident-free record throughout his decades of service.
The Seminole County Board of Education commended both men for their outstanding contributions, noting that their years of dedication and professionalism have positively impacted generations of students, teachers, and coaches. Their commitment reflects the very best of Seminole County Schools and serves as an inspiring example of service to the community.
