Seminole County Middle High School (SCMHS) has been named a 2023 Advanced Placement (AP) Honor School by the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE).
The GaDOE names 2023 AP Honor Schools in eight categories, based on the results of 2023 AP courses and exams. SCMHS was recognized as an AP Challenge School, a designation which recognizes schools with enrollments of 900 or fewer students and students testing in English, math, science, and social studies.
"Seminole County Middle High School is grateful to receive this recognition," said SCMHS Principal Shane Purdy. “Our students, AP teachers, AP testing coordinator, and administrators have committed to expanding advanced and accelerated coursework opportunities for Seminole County students.”
This award recognizes the dedication of the school and district to ensure that students are prepared for college. It also highlights the hard work of our AP teachers and students as they challenge themselves with rigorous coursework, culminating with the AP exam in May.
AP exams are administered by the College Board, which also administers the SAT. AP courses are one of several ways Georgia students can access college-level learning at the high school level; students who receive a 3, 4, or 5 on an AP exam may receive college credit. GaDOE began recognizing AP Honor Schools in 2008.
“I congratulate Mr. Purdy and the team at SCMHS for continuing to grow the school’s AP program,” said Mr. Mark Earnest, Seminole County Superintendent. “AP coursework is rigorous and challenging for teachers and students alike, and we applaud them both for their hard work.”
