2017-18 Teacher of the Year

We are pleased to announce the Seminole County School District Teacher of the Year, Mrs. April Bonner. She was also selected as the Seminole County Middle/High Teacher of the year.
















We also congratulate Mrs. Joyce McCalvin who was chosen by the faculty of Seminole County Elementary School as their Teacher of the Year.

SACS-CASI Accreditation Achieved for Seminole County School District

The Seminole County School District earned accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS-CASI), an accreditation division of AdvancED. 

SACS-CASI provides nationally-recognized accreditation, the purpose of which is continuous school improvement focused on increasing student performance. To earn accreditation, schools must meet SACS-CASI’s high standards, be evaluated by a team of professionals from outside the school and implement a continuous process of school improvement. 

“Accreditation demonstrates to our students, parents and community that we are focused on raising student achievement, providing a safe and enriching learning environment, and maintaining an efficient and effective operation staffed by highly qualified educators,” stated Brinson Register, Superintendent. 

SACS-CASI accreditation is recognized across state lines, which not only eases the transfer process as students move from accredited school to accredited school but also assures parents that the school is meeting nationally accepted standards for quality and successful professional practice. 

Dr. Mark Elgart, President/CEO of AdvancED, the parent organization of SACS-CASI, stated, “SACS-CASI Accreditation is a rigorous process that focuses the entire school on the primary goal of creating lifelong learners. The Seminole County School District is to be commended for engaging in this process and demonstrating a commitment to continuous improvement.”

Seminole County Public Library NOTICE OF PROPERTY TAX INCREASE

The Seminole County Public Library has tentatively adopted a millage rate which will increase the millage rate to .769.  This rate is an increase of 8.6% over the rollback rate. 
Three tax hearings are required as the Public Library is requesting an increase in taxes.  
All concerned citizens are invited to attend the three public hearings on this tax increase to be held at:
 
Seminole County Public Library’s Martin Room on September 21, 2017 at 10:00 AM
Seminole County Public Library’s Martin Room on September 21, 2017 at 6:30 PM
Seminole County Public Library’s Martin Room on September 28, 2017 at 2:00 PM
 
The Library is located on 103 West 4th Street in Donalsonville, Georgia.
 
The tentative increase will result in a millage rate of .769, an increase of .061 mills. Without this tentative tax increase, the millage rate will be no more than .708 mills. The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $100,000 is approximately $2.32, and the proposed tax increase for a non-homestead property with a fair market value of $300,000 is approximately $7.32.

Seminole County BOE - NOTICE OF ACCEPTANCE OF ROLLBACK RATE

The Seminole County Board of Education has tentatively adopted a millage rate which will accept the rollback rate of 16.151.  The rollback rate is higher than last year’s rate of 16.014 as the tax digest has decreased. No tax hearings are required as the School Board is not requesting an increase in taxes.  The final adoption will be made on Thursday, September 28, 2017, at 3:00 PM at 203 East 6th Street in Donalsonville, Georgia.

Georgia Milestones End-of-Grade Assessment on April 17-27, 2017

SCMHS will administer the Georgia Milestones End-of-Grade Assessment beginning April 17 through April 27.  The schedule is as follows:

April 17 - Grade 6 ELA Section I
April 18 - Grade 6 ELA Sections 2 & 3
April 19- Grade 6 Math
April 20- Grades 7 & 8 ELA Section I
April 21 - Grades 7 & 8 ELA Sections 2 & 3
April 24 - Grades 7 & 8 Math
April 25 - Grade 8 Science
April 26 - Grade 8 Social Studies
April 27 - Make-up tests

Beginning this year, students in grades 6 and 7 will take a Student Learning Outcome (SLO) for science and social studies. There is no longer a Georgia Milestones End-of-Grade Assessment for these courses.  Students in grade 8 will take both the EOG and SLO in science and social studies.

SACS/Advanc-Ed Parent Survey

Advanc-Ed will be conducting our accreditation review this year for Seminole County Schools. Parents are asked to complete a survey for part of this process. Your responses will help to identify areas where we excel and areas where we can improve.

If you are a parent of one or more students in our school system, we ask that you complete the following survey. If you ave already completed it, we thank you! The deadline to complete the survey is January 6, 2017. If you have any questions regarding this survey, please contact your school principal.
